Leah Blumenfeld, Interim President

Leah Hutton Blumenfeld, PhD, has taught Political Science at Barry University since 2010. Dr. Blumenfeld has been a board member and officer of the Florida Political Science Association since 2013, including three terms as president. She was also a member of the Miami-Dade County Commission for Women for ten years (2009 – 2019) and served as chair of its legislative committee (2011 – 2022).

Clora Adkins, First Interim Vice President

Clora Adkins is a seasoned advocate for civil rights and social justice. Mrs. Adkins has dedicated 33 years of her working career to public service.  She has held positions in the Miami-Dade Police Department, the Juvenile Assessment Center (currently known as the Juvenile Services Department) and the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department where she retired as a Captain in 2011. She is the founder and executive director of “Someone’s Child Human Trafficking” Program.  

Rose Martin, Second Interim Vice President

Rose Martin is deeply committed to equity advocacy in Miami-Dade County, where she serves as the President of the Women's History Coalition and the 2nd Vice Chair of the Miami-Dade County Commission for Women. Her work focuses on championing women's rights and advancing policies that promote equity and inclusion. Additionally, she is an evaluator and qualitative researcher for youth prevention programs while currently pursuing doctoral studies in applied learning sciences at the University of Miami.

Luis Meurice, Treasurer

Born in Miami, Florida, to Cuban immigrant parents, Luis is a proud graduate of both Florida International University and the University of Miami, holding degrees in Finance and Accounting. His career has spanned various roles in CPA firms and corporate settings, with my most recent position being in Marketing Compliance at CarePlus Health Plans.

Mary Lamberts, Secretary

Mary Lamberts is retired from the University of Florida/IFAS Miami-Dade County Extension after 30+ years working with commercial vegetable producers and pesticide applicators. She is currently the Editor of the Proceedings of the Florida State Horticultural Society, Secretary of the Board of the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Florida, Inc., and is active with Your Bosom Buddies, a breast cancer support group.

Alicia Carazo, Membership

Alicia Carazo has served on the Board for the past two years. Alicia is a partner at the law firm of Stone, Glass & Connolly, LLP. Before becoming an attorney, Alicia worked as a high school English teacher. She is a proud graduate of the Miami-Dade public schools, Florida International University, and the University of Miami. As a lifelong resident of Miami, Alicia is focused on improving the community, while preserving its unique culture and environment.

Maydee Martinez, Voter Services

Maydee Martinez is currently the Program Director for The Posse Foundation, as well as a dedicated civic leader with a deep passion for creating social impact in South Florida. Her work involves collaborating with diverse stakeholders to implement people-centered solutions that promote equity and sustainability. She is enthusiastic about leveraging her skills and network to drive positive change and build a brighter future for our vibrant Miami community.

Dorrit Marks, Historian

Dorrit Marks was born in Vienna, grew up in Manhattan, and studied Political Science and International Relations at the University of Michigan and the Graduate Institute of International Studies at University of Geneva in Switzerland. She has been a League president and finds League a wonderful training ground to learn about issues and public speaking. Her League experience led to projects to build democratic institutions.
